Run Wilmslow for charity..... The two Charities chosen to benefit from the 2008 Wilmslow Half Marathon are Christie's Hospital and the David Lewis Centre. Christie's As one of Europe's leading cancer hospitals, the Christie treats around 40,000 patients a year. We have ambitious plans to further develop our services. We want to provide Christie services at other hospitals across the area so we can treat more patients closer to their homes. We also plan to build new facilities for treatment and research, enabling more patients to have treatment as an outpatient rather than being admitted to hospital and have access to the very latest developments through research trials. We want Christie's to be amongst the best in the world - but to do this we need your help, your support at the Wilmslow Half Marathon will help raise the vital funds we need to further develop the services we provide our patients.
The David Lewis Centre Our main centre is located in Warford, just outside Alderley Edge and we also have 3 houses in the local community. On site we have a Special School, Specialist College and Continuing Adult Education facilities. We look after 280 people of all ages, have 950 staff and are open 52 weeks of the year. Our
current fundraising project is to replace our minibuses which have travelled
over 1 million miles. They are our essential link to the local community
as there is no public transport available. They take our residents shopping,
to college, on holiday, to work or out for the evening. They help our
residents learn new skills, make friends, make a contribution and have
fun. Your support and sponsorship money from the Wilmslow Half Marathon
will help keep the wheels on the bus!
